I really enjoyed this book. Unlike many reviewers, I feel the book does transcend time. American people and culture today, computers and all, are a lot like those in Stendhals 19th century France.
The main characters strike me as real, and quite complex. Julien is a typical adolescent/ young adult: Idealistic, searching and unsure of himself. To me, it is amazing to what how the world interacts with and alters his self-image. Mathilde is equally interesting. She reminds me of a flighty alternative girl, looking for a dream of simmering romance. And MME de Renal is a wonderful, believable woman, falling in love late in life, victim of the missing husband syndrome.
Like people today, Stedhals characters are a bundle of contradictions. Is Julien a villain, an angel, a self-serving climber or a man truly in love, searching for his higher self? Aloof or loveable? Is MME de Renal a devout, moral patroness, devoted to her family, or the vilest of adulators, ready to turn her back on duty for the simmer of love? Is Mathilde submissive, or arrogant and dominant? The answer to all questions is yes. We are all divided.

Before I search on the internet, I really can not understand what the meaning about this story.It began in a little black and gray,it described a person looked like a elephant and was treated unequally. People around him always hated him,including his mom,she abandoned him when he was very young. His appearance looked terrible for everyone. And the first time when doctor saw him,all of him was filled with depressed and sadness. People around him all laughed at him,even more threw stones to him. Because of his terrific appearance,he was caught by the police,blamed by the neighboring,hated by the children,refused by the women. He can write and sing,but nobody hired him. During the winter vacation I read a book named JANE EYRE, and I did think and get a lot. After I closed the covers of the book, I felt like having a long journey of the spirit. Jane Eyre, has left us so much to recall and to think.
Jane Eyer was a born resister, whose parents went off when she was very young, and her aunt，the only relative she had，treated her very badly. Actually, Jane wasn’t pretty, and of course, the ordinary appearance didn’t make others feel good of her, even her own aunt felt disgusted with it. And some others even thought that she was easy to look down on and to tease, so when Miss Ingram met Jane Eyre, she seemed quite contemptuous, for that she was obviously much more prettier than ‘the plain and ugly governess’。 But as the little governess had said: ‘Do you think, because I am poor, obscure, plain, and little, I am soulless and heartless? You think wrong!’ This is the idea of equality in Jane Eyre’s mind. So, finally she had the courage to express her love to Mr Rochester. She said:"Do you think I can watch another woman become your bride?Do you think I`m a machine,whitout feelings?Do you think,because I`m small and poor and plain,that I have no soul and no heart?Well,you`re wrong! I have as much soul and heart as you.It is my spirit that speaks to your spirit!We are equal in the sight of God!” Her idea of equality and self-respect impress us so much and let us feel the power inside her body.
God hadn’t given her beauty and wealth, but instead, God gave her a kind mind and a thinking brain. When we think of this girl, what she gave us was not a pretty face or a transcendent temperament that make us admire deeply, but a huge charm of her personality.
From "Troy",I learn that the war is cruel.
The war was started by Agamenon because Paris took Helen away from Greece,it was not just about dignity,but also about ambition of Greek leaders to control Troy.
The war lasted more than 10 years. people in both of the countries were toubled deeply,their husbands,fathers,sons were soldiers,they had to fight.They would be very sad if someone they cared about died.
At last,Greek soldiers came out of the wooden horse ,broke into Troy and killed the people there when all of them were asleep.Although they won,they were not praised because they were too cruel to be called heroes.
The war is cruel,so we had better love peace.
